The Connecticut State Police have temporarily closed their firearms training range in Simsbury due to concerns about elevated lead exposure. The shutdown, initiated on April 4, aims to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of health risks associated with the facility, affecting all live firearms-related training.

As part of this safety measure, the agency, in collaboration with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), will provide voluntary health screenings for personnel and implement training focused on lead and noise mitigation. These steps are intended to enhance the safety and wellbeing of officers, reflecting the department’s commitment to addressing potential hazards in firearms training environments.
