Pennsylvania hosts an annual duck hunting event, “Host a Hero Duck Hunt,” which connects veterans and introduces them to waterfowl hunting, highlighting the sport’s potential to foster camaraderie. Participants, including 21 veterans from states as far as Louisiana, share laughter and stories while waiting for migratory birds in blinds, creating a supportive environment for those who have served.
The event, founded by Army veteran Matt Killian in 2017 and set for November 12 this year, illustrates how duck hunting can serve as a therapeutic activity, allowing veterans to break away from daily life and engage with others who understand their experiences. Participants not only experience the thrill of hunting but also gain a sense of community, as many go on to become passionate duck hunters themselves.
