The death toll from flash flooding that struck Texas hill country over the July 4th weekend currently stands at 135. Three people are missing, and it will be months before the total devastation is fully understood. Only a few days after the tragedy struck, two firearm industry mainstays were raising funds for the victims and organizations dedicated to providing support through a devastating time.
GSM Outdoors
On July 9, GSM Outdoors—with a family of firms that includes roughly 50 outdoor companies—began matching all donations to flood relief efforts across central Texas made through its branded websites, dollar for dollar. Those websites included a Texas Flood Relief donation option at checkout, enabling the community to support families in their time of greatest need.
Through the end of July, some of GSM Outdoors’ most recognized brands—including Walker’s, Cold Steel, Stealth Cam, SOG, Muddy Outdoors, Bill Lewis, Northland, and more—included a donation option at checkout. The company matched the amount and contributed 100 percent of every dollar to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund.
Enthusiasts can donate directly to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund.
Winchester Safes
Winchester Safes pledged 100 percent of its profits from online sales through the end of July also to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. As a Texas-based company, the tragedy hit close to home, with many of its customers, employees and partners living and working in communities like Kerr County.
“Our hearts are with everyone in Kerr County and the surrounding Hill Country communities,” said Kyle Walters, CEO of Winchester Safes. “We’re devastated by the lives impacted, and this is one small way we can stand with the community as they begin to rebuild.”
Through The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, funds raised are being directed to support nonprofit organizations, first responder agencies and local governments actively involved in response, relief and recovery efforts.
