A mass shooting at Florida State University’s Tallahassee campus results in two fatalities, with several others injured. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, is a student and reportedly used his mother’s service weapon to carry out the attack. Witnesses recount a terrifying scene as students fled or sought shelter in response to gunfire that erupted around noon, leading to a campus-wide lockdown.

Authorities apprehend Ikner, though he fails to comply with police orders during the encounter and is subsequently shot. As investigations continue, questions arise regarding how he gained access to a firearm despite being known to local law enforcement. With classes suspended and a sense of grieving settling in, the incident has drawn attention not only from local authorities but has prompted reactions from national leaders, underscoring the broader discussions surrounding gun access and campus safety.
