A coalition of House Republicans is urging Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to dismantle Biden-era policies that classify gun violence as a “public health emergency.” Led by Rep. Diana Harshbarger, the group asserts that the actions of the CDC and NIH represent a “dangerous threat” to the Second Amendment and argue that such measures exceed the legal scope defined by the Dickey Amendment, which restricts federal funding for gun control advocacy.

The letter highlights controversial funding initiatives under the Biden administration, including a $428,000 study on the impact of violent media and a $1.1 million research project examining lawful gun ownership risks. The lawmakers contend that these projects divert resources from intended research on firearm injuries, calling for an end to funding that potentially violates federal law while advocating for new studies on gun-related issues like the effects of gun-free zones.
