The newly launched Disarmory Ministries in Oakland County provides a platform for residents to safely dispose of unwanted firearms through regular buyback events. Operating at Greenfield Presbyterian Church every Friday and Saturday, the program offers incentives such as gift cards worth up to $300 in exchange for firearms, aiming to mitigate risks associated with gun ownership.

Rooted in community efforts to combat gun violence, Disarmory Ministries was born from Oakland County’s prior buyback initiatives. With tragic incidents like the 2021 Oxford High School shooting and the recent Michigan State University tragedy, the ministry seeks to lower the number of unsecured firearms in homes—an issue linked to a rise in youth gun-related deaths. Since its inception, the initiative has already helped dispose of 650 firearms, indicating a growing response to community safety concerns.
