Semi-automatic .22 rifles have been a staple in the firearm marketplace for decades, and the TriStar Arms KR.22 brings yet another lightweight, affordable option that accepts Ruger 10/22 rotary magazines. “It should look familiar. It’s based on the 10/22 architecture, follows that same format,” American Rifleman Executive Editor Jay Grazio said. “Ten-round rotary magazine. It’s compatible with 10/22 magazines, so all of the 10-round and other magazines will work in this gun.”
Three different versions of the TriStar KR.22 are available: an all-black model, OD green and black and an FDE and black model shown in the video above. Each rifle is equipped with a reversible bolt handle, making it accessible for both left- and right-handed shooters, as well as those who prefer to charge their guns from either side.
“It has a polymer receiver, which is kind of neat, kind of interesting. Does keep the weight down,” Grazio said. “It’s super light, very handy, has a 18.5-inch barrel, which is pretty standard. Interesting to note, we do have an adjustable cheek piece down at the end, so if you have a slightly higher red dot or whatever, you can match that just fine.”
There are also sling-swivel studs at the front and rear of the polymer stock, and the 18.5-inch barrel is threaded 1/2-28 TPI for compatibility with most rimfire sound suppressors on the market.
“And this is kind of unique. There’s also a bladed safety in the trigger,” Grazio said. “So if the gun, for example, happened to be dropped, it’s not going to go off accidentally, which is a nice little safety feature, especially given that this platform of rifle is very common for teaching new shooters. So you’ve got double safeties.”
