A gun violence awareness event is set to occur on June 22 at 1 p.m. in New Bern, bringing together local leaders and organizations to address this pressing community issue. The event, hosted at The Flame on Neuse Boulevard, will feature the United Sisterhood, Incorporated and NC Safe, which will distribute free gun locks to attendees, highlighting proactive measures against gun violence.
Linda Godette, a 35-year law enforcement veteran who lost her grandson to gun violence, stresses the need for communal dialogue and healing. Alongside a diverse committee of law enforcement and faith leaders, a licensed clinical mental health counselor will be present to provide insights on recognizing warning signs related to violence and trauma. Tickets are available for $30 per person or $300 for a table, encouraging broad community participation.
