While the modest-by-comparison year-over-year decline in May’s gun-sales estimate hints at a new norm around the corner, the highest selling semi-auto guns being purchased online—and picked up later at an FFL to complete legal requirements—may be changing faster than other methods of operation. The most popular choice in each category for Internet shoppers has remained largely the same this year, but there’s been some big shifts below that top spot, according to GunBroker’s reports.

Bear in mind that GunBroker’s reported figures exclusively reflect online purchases and sales through FFLs and resellers using the company’s services. They are a slice of online purchase trends, but these numbers in no way represent the volume of enthusiasts who prefer to visit their favorite FFL to inspect and handle a gun before money is exchanged.

Semi-Auto Rifles

The biggest shift in GunBroker shopper preference was in semi-automatic rifles. The Daniel Defense DDM4 rose to the top-five list for the first time in 2025, claiming the company’s No. 2 sales spot.

May’s No. 1 performer in that category was, as has become largely expected Ruger’s venerable 10/22. It’s remained in that position throughout the year, apart from April, when SIG Sauer MCX rifles claimed the title. Even then the legendary rimfire only dropped to second.

Another big mover in semi-auto rifles was the SIG Sauer M400. May is the first time it made the top-five list this year.

Pistols

In semi-auto pistols, the SIG Sauer P365 has yet to relinquish the No. 1 position during 2025. The CZ 75, however, jumped up to No. 2 in the ranking. It’s also the first time the gun has appeared in the monthly report’s top-five this year.

“We’re honored to see the CZ 75 reach this new milestone in popularity,” said Tom Taylor, chief marketing officer at CZ-USA. “Although it’s no stranger to the top 10, this is the first time the CZ 75 has earned the No. 2 spot, and it’s a powerful reminder that timeless design, superior craftsmanship and proven performance still resonate with today’s shooters.”

Shotguns And Others

Benelli’s M4 took fifth place in May, returning to the elite five list for the first time since February, when it was No. 1. The GForce GF00 made its first appearance last month, climbing into the fifth place slot.

The top-selling revolver in May was the Colt Python, a perennial favoring among wheelgun fans that rarely drops out of the top list. In lever-action, bolt-action and single-shot rifles the Marlin 1895, Ruger American Rifle and CVA Scout remained there, respectively. Changes below them were little more than minor shuffling.

Pump-action, over-under and side-by-side shotgun honors went to the Mossberg 590, Browning Citori and Stoeger Coach Gun, respectively. All of them were also in the No. 1 position in April.

So many variables enter the equation—including rebates, special sales, promotions, inventory and walk-in traffic—that the results should be considered a thin slice of the overall market. The rankings do, however, provide a snapshot of what was popular on GunBroker last month, and a few semi-autos worth looking at more closely when it’s time to make a purchase.
