Kent Police officers fired their weapons early Wednesday morning when a sexual assault suspect opened his apartment door and pointed a handgun at them. The 48-year-old man, wanted for felony sexual assault and domestic violence, retreated back into his apartment after the officers shot at him but was later taken into custody with the assistance of a police K9 unit.
During the incident, which unfolded around 3:15 a.m., the suspect’s mother alerted authorities that he was alone inside the unit. A sprinkler system activated due to a small fire in the apartment, prompting police to evacuate surrounding neighbors as they attempted to call the suspect out. Fortunately, no officers were injured, and despite suffering bite injuries during the arrest, the suspect was apprehended by police.
