Kingstree Implements New Curfew for Minors Amid Violence

In response to a disturbing spike in gun violence, the Kingstree town council has voted to impose an earlier curfew for minors, now starting at 10 p.m. This change comes in light of recent incidents, including six reported homicides affecting individuals aged 18 and younger between May and July. Local leaders emphasize the urgency of this measure to safeguard the community, especially its youth, as they face the repercussions of violence in their neighborhoods.

The new ordinance not only affects the curfew hours but also increases penalties for parents who allow their children to break the rules, introducing fines of up to $300 or even jail time for repeated violations. With law enforcement set to enforce these regulations immediately, the community is rallying together to address these tragic events, outlined by state Senator Ronnie Sabb, who stressed, “These tragedies are not just statistics — they are neighbors, friends, and family members.”
