A 29-year-old man, Carlos Fernandez, succumbed to injuries after being shot by Laredo police early Friday morning amid a series of violent assaults. The police received multiple calls starting just after 3 a.m. reporting Fernandez’s aggressive behavior, including an attack on a victim with a bottle and a suspected vehicle burglary in the area.
Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation when they located Fernandez, who fled on foot while holding an object wrapped in cloth. After he allegedly pointed the item at officers, one officer fired their weapon, striking him. Following the incident, the officer involved is on administrative reassignment, a standard procedure while the investigation is underway.
