Long Beach Distributes Free Gun Safes to Enhance Safety

The City of Long Beach announces a new initiative to distribute 200 free gun safes to residents, beginning April 28, in an effort to enhance firearm safety and prevent gun-related injuries and deaths. The program reflects growing concerns over the accessibility of firearms, particularly as nearly 4.6 million children in the U.S. live in homes with unlocked and loaded guns, according to officials.

Offered on a first-come, first-served basis, the safes can hold two handguns and will be available at several city locations throughout the week. This initiative, part of a broader violence prevention strategy funded by the city’s 2025 budget, emphasizes the importance of safe storage and responsible firearm management in reducing accidents and unauthorized access, especially among children.
