Long Island Receives $2.7M in State Gun Violence Aid

Governor Kathy Hochul announces that Long Island law enforcement agencies will receive nearly $2.7 million as part of a state initiative to reduce gun violence. This funding comes from the Gun Involved Violence Elimination program, which has been operational for a decade and aims to strengthen community safety through improved personnel, equipment, and training.

Specifically, Nassau County will receive $1.35 million for five agencies, while Suffolk County will get $1.3 million for four departments. Historical data indicates that departments involved in this initiative recorded a 14% decrease in shootings compared to last year, underscoring the program’s impact. “Getting illegal guns off the street is one of the best things we can do,” Suffolk County Executive Edward Romaine emphasizes, highlighting the urgent need for continued action against gun violence.
