While the trend has shifted towards 9mm pistols among law enforcement and military sectors, consumer demand for larger calibers, such as .40 and .45, remains strong, representing over 40% of the domestic firearm manufacturing in the country.
Analysis reveals that just 31 companies account for over 97% of this production, with Smith & Wesson leading the way by producing 74,569 large caliber pistols last year. Other significant manufacturers include Kimber, Sig Sauer, and Glock, highlighting the competitive landscape in an industry valued at more than $90 billion in the U.S.
