Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis labels the city’s escalating youth gun violence a “catastrophic situation,” following the recent shooting deaths of two students from Booker T. Washington High School. With 28 homicides reported in just 25 days this month, officials call for urgent community involvement, particularly from parents and guardians, to help curb this alarming trend.

During a press conference, Chief Davis emphasized the need for families to be vigilant, stating, “Get your children,” as a plea for parental awareness and engagement in their lives. The police chief linked the violence to gang activity and targeted attacks, revealing that multiple weapons were recovered at the scene. Her comments come amidst rising concerns over juvenile safety and the implications of growing gun violence in the city.
