Minneapolis is experiencing a troubling resurgence in gun violence, with Hennepin Healthcare reporting 72 gunshot victims this year alone, including 12 children. Doctors are alarmed by the recent spike in firearm injuries, which threatens the progress made in reducing shootings over previous years.
In response, the Next Step Program is working to connect survivors with vital recovery services, emphasizing healing and reconstruction of lives after trauma. Since its inception in 2016, the program has assisted over 900 participants and advocates for responsible gun ownership through its “Be SMART” initiative, reminding the community of the importance of safety measures around firearms.
