Following the tragic Oxford High School shooting, Michigan State University’s Prevent 2 Protect project is extending its reach to Wayne County, aiming to reduce gun violence in schools. Initially launched in response to the 2021 incident, the initiative has already supported nearly 60 students in various regions by providing vital community-based resources and mental health services tailored to individuals identified as potential threats.

Prevent 2 Protect leverages collaboration between law enforcement, mental health professionals, and educators to address underlying issues leading to these threats. Current Project Manager Danielle Murphy emphasizes the importance of human connection in violence prevention, stating that the initiative hopes to serve every district in Michigan as it continues to grow.
