In North Carolina, while residents aged 18 and older have the right to open carry firearms, private businesses retain the authority to prohibit employees from bringing guns to work. This includes the ability to post signs or provide verbal notices banning firearms, regardless of whether they are concealed or openly carried.

Employers can even enforce these restrictions in parking lots, although the law permits individuals to store firearms in vehicles out of sight. Notably, the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act allows qualified retired and active officers to carry weapons, yet businesses can still impose their own policies restricting this right. Understanding these regulations is crucial for both employees and employers navigating workplace safety and gun laws in North Carolina.
