The Nebraska Supreme Court is hearing arguments in a legal challenge against Lincoln’s ban on guns in public places, after local gun owners claimed the ban violates the state’s constitutional carry law. The plaintiffs, represented by Texas attorney Jacob Huebert, argue that the city’s regulations infringe on their rights to carry firearms in parks and other public areas, a right allegedly protected by the recently passed LB77 law.

City Attorney Yohance Christie contends that the case should be dismissed because the plaintiffs have not experienced any actual harm, as no enforcement actions have yet been taken against them. The court’s ruling on this matter could have significant implications, not just for Lincoln’s ordinance but for similar gun control measures in other municipalities across Nebraska.
