Hatsan USA, known for its air rifles and pistols, also imports .22 LR rifles and shotguns under the Escort brand name. New for 2024, the company is following up on its BullTac lightweight pump-action bullpup shotgun with a semi-automatic version called the BullTac SA.
The BullTac SA is a semi-automatic, gas-operated shotgun based upon the overall layout of the pump-action BullTac bullpup shotgun. Unlike Escort’s other bullpup semi-automatic shotguns, the BullTac SA uses a tubular magazine (five-shell capacity) versus a detachable box. It has an aluminum alloy receiver placed inside a polymer chassis with a steel barrel that has a chrome-plated bore and fixed cylinder choke.
The Escort BullTac SA is a semi-automatic version of the BullTac bullpup shotgun.
Due to the BullTac SA’s bullpup layout, sights are mounted on a raised carrying handle. They consist of a front blade with fiber-optic insert and an adjustable rear aperture. A removable section of Picatinny rail for mounted optical sights comes attached to the carry handle. Short sections of Picatinny rail are also positioned at three and six o’clock on the handle, in addition to a section on the bottom of the fore-end. Quick-detachable sling swivel sockets are placed at the rear of the buttstock.
The BullTac SA is a lightweight and compact semi-automatic shotgun designed for home defense.
The BullTac SA is available in 12 gauge, 20 gauge or .410 bore, all with 3” chambers. While each has similar overall dimensions, with an 18” barrel and an overall length of 27.75”, the shotguns range from 6.7 to 7 lbs., depending on chambering. MSRP for all three chamberings is identical at $350. Though initial models have an all-black finish, other options such as gray, OD green, and flat dark earth finishes will be offered in the future.
