Caldwell, Idaho-based NEMO Arms has a track record of offering unique takes on popular styles of firearms, such as the company’s .300 Win. Mag.-chambered Omen semi-automatic rifle. New for 2024, the company is applying its approach to the large-format pistol market with the Mongoose.
The Mongoose is a 9 mm Luger semi-automatic pistol that uses a short-recoil operating system, a design that the company says reduces recoil and muzzle rise. Its two-part receiver has an extruded aluminum upper that extends into a handguard with a 10.25” M1913 Picatinny rail along the top and M-Lok slots in the 3-, 6- and 9-o’clock positions. A quick-detachable end cap compensator also acts as a stand-off device for the 5.8” 416R stainless steel barrel. The lower is billet machined alloy.
The Mongoose’s tilting barrel is concealed within its monolithic upper receiver and handguard. The quick-detach compensator also acts as a standoff device.
All controls are ambidextrous, with a bilateral AR-style safety lever and bolt release. Magazines are of the CZ Scorpion pattern, and a 35-round Magpul version is supplied with each pistol and the paddle-type mag release can be operated with either hand. The non-reciprocating, forward-mounted charging handle can be configured to either side.
Many components of the Mongoose are AR-compatible, including the fire control unit and pistol grip. The pistol comes with an ALG ACT trigger and Magpul MOE SL grip installed.
The NEMO Arms Mongoose combines AR controls with a lightweight, large-format pistol.
While the company calls the Mongoose a “PCC” (pistol-caliber carbine), it is currently offered in a pistol format. A section of Picatinny rail on the rear of the receiver allows for the attachment of a sling or a stock to configure the Mongoose as a short-barreled rifle (all NFA rules apply).
