Springfield Armory’s recent pursuit of the bolt-action hunting rifle market started four years ago with its aptly named Model 2020 rifle. The initial version of the 2020 was a long-range hunter called the Waypoint. That was followed up last year by the backcountry Redline and a rimfire series. New for 2024, Springfield continues to expand the 2020 lineup with the traditionally styled Boundary.

The Boundary combines the lines of a classic bolt-action hunting rifle with modern technology and features. At its core is Springfield’s precision-machined 2020 bolt-action with fluted bolt and removable bolt handle and a 700-pattern Picatinny scope rail installed. Like other 2020 models, the Boundary uses an adjustable TriggerTech Field unit.

The Boundary will be offered in both short and long (introduced this year in the Waypoint series) actions, with a selection of seven different chamberings in today’s most popular hunting cartridges, from .308 Win. to .300 Win. Mag. Barrel options are fluted stainless steel or carbon-fiber wrapped stainless steel and range in length from 20” to 24”, depending on chambering. Both options have their muzzles’ threaded and a Springfield radial muzzlebrake installed. All metal parts are given a Tactical Gray Cerakote finish.
The Boundary differs from other 2020 models in that it uses an internal magazine with a hinged floorplate triggerguard.
The Boundary’s remaining features make it more of a traditional-style hunting rifle than the Waypoint and Redline. Conventional lines come from its AG Composites Sportsman stock, which is made of 100 percent carbon fiber with an aluminum bedding block and a fixed length-of-pull at 13.5”. Weighing approximately 27 ozs., the stock has a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad, quick-detachable sling swivel cups and an M-Lok section built into the fore-end.
It is given a hand-painted Rogue camouflage finish. It differs from other 2020 models in that it uses a patent-pending fixed internal magazine with a hinged floorplate to assist in unloading. Boundary rifles weigh between 6 lbs., 10 ozs. and 7 lbs., 2 ozs. depending on the chambering and come with the same 0.75-m.o.a. three-shot group guarantee as other 2020 models.
