New For 2025: Beretta 20X Bobcat

Beretta is no stranger to the world of polymer-frame, striker-fired handguns, but that doesn’t mean the company has given up on its legacy metal-frame, hammer-fired pistols. Over the past few years, Beretta has applied its “X” modernization treatment to those models from the 92 to the Cheetah. The .22 LR Bobcat is next in line, with the new-for-2025 20X.

The 20X is based on Beretta’s famous tip-up barrel pocket pistols, like the 21A.

The original Beretta Model 20 was introduced in 1967, chambered in .25 ACP, and produced until 1985 when it was superseded by the 21A Bobcat. Like the 20 and 21, the 20X uses a double-action/single-action trigger mechanism with a manual safety mounted on the right side of the frame and has Beretta’s famous tip-up barrel that allows for loading and unloading the pistol without racking the slide.

The X upgrades include improved frame, trigger, sights, grips and controls. “You’re On Your Own” model pictured.

Its “X” upgrades follow those Beretta applied to the .32 ACP 30X Tomcat. These include a trigger guard that is integral to the frame as opposed to the 21A stamped steel guard. This is part of a totally redesigned frame that Beretta claims that improves durability by 100 percent. The Effortless Loading System (ELS) involves a frame-mounted button on the right side that allows the chamber end of the barrel to tip up when pressed.

Beretta’s Trident Trigger System uses a skeletonized trigger to reduce double-action pull weight by a claimed 35 percent. Grips have Beretta’s new proprietary “Helica” texture. Both front and rear sights are replaceable. The magazine release button is positioned where the trigger guard meets the grip frame. Taking advantage of the high-quality personal protection .22 LR ammunition now on the market, that cartridge is the 20X’s sole chambering. The magazine capacity is increased to eight rounds.

The 20X is offered in two models, both with a unique moniker. The 20X “You’re On Your Own” is an ultra-concealable model with G10 grips (MSRP $599), while the “Do It Yourself” model has an extended barrel with its muzzle threaded 1/2×28 TPI, suppressor-height sights and polymer grips (MSRP $549). Both weigh under 15 ozs.
