Turkish brand Canik has become something of a disruptor in the polymer-frame, striker-fired handgun market, offering high-quality and feature-rich firearms that come packaged with a “starter kit” of accessories. From high-end competition models to the micro-compact Mete MC9. New for 2025, the company expanded its Mete lineup further with the Mete MC9 Prime.
Based on the basic Mete MC9 architecture, the Prime has a half-inch longer barrel and an extended grip that houses a flush-fit, 17-round magazine. It has an overall length of 6.73”, 1.16” width, 5.43” height, and weighs 23.38 ozs.
The Prime, however, is more than a stretch job (they already did that with the MC9LS.). It’s an entirely new package based on the requests of U.S. customers. This starts visually with more aggressive slide serrations and lightening cuts, with the rear of the slide flared for more positive racking. The barrel is fluted and has serrations on the chamber area and is integrally compensated with a matching ported slide. Full coverage stippling covers the grip, with the magazine release button and front of the trigger guard also given new texturing.
Other frame modifications include a textured “memory pad,” an enlarged trigger guard with a double undercut and a low-profile magwell. The flat-faced aluminum trigger has a 90-degree break, and its surface is given a diamond serration pattern and the slide stop lever is upgraded. Using the Mete’s interchangeable backstrap system, three sizes are included.
The pistol is optics-ready with an RMSc footprint and is available with an optional Mecanik M04 3-m.o.a. red dot sight installed from the factory that will co-witness with the factory iron night sights. Like other Canik products, the Prime comes in a lockable hard case with a spare magazine, G-Code IWB/OWB holster, speedloader, and cleaning and tool kits.
