Turkish-made Canik handguns have raised the bar for quality, features and value when it comes to self-defense and competition pistols. In 2023, the company entered the ultra-competitive micro-nine market with the Mete MC9. The success of that model has lead to the company offering the new-for-2024 Mete MC9L and MC9LS.
The Canik MC9L (pictured) and MC9LS take the company’s micro-nine MC9 and give it a larger grip and increased capacity.
Both new pistols have the features of the original Mete MC9, itself a scaled-down version of Canik’s Mete line introduced in 2021. They are striker-fired, polymer-framed semi-automatic pistols chambered in 9 mm Luger. Interchangeable backstraps allows the owner to customize the grip size, and three are supplied. A Picatinny rail for mounting accessories is modeled into the frame’s dustcover. There is a a slide release on both sides of the pistol and the magazine-release button is reversible for ambidextrous use. Sights are a white dot front and blacked-out rear notch and the slide is optic cut with a Shield RMSc footprint.
The MC9 and MC9LS (pictured) have three finish options, including the shown flat-dark earth (FDE).
The MC9L and MC9LS offer a larger grip and increased capacity over the MC9. Both pistols use a full-size frame that accommodates a 17-round magazine, as opposed to the MC9’s 12-round capacity, and have a height of 5.43”. The MC9L has the 3.18” barrel length of the MC9, for an overall length of 6.27” and weighs 22.22 ozs. The MC9LS has a slightly longer 3.64” barrel for an overall length of 6.73” and weighs 23.77 ozs.
Canik Mete pistols come packaged with a holster and maintenance kit.
The pistols have three finish options—black, flat dark earth (FDE) or two-tone, with a black slide and FDE frame. Like other pistols in the Mete line, the MC9L and MC9LS come in a hard case that includes a spare magazine, magazine loader, inside-the-waistband holster and a cleaning and maintenance kit.
The MC9L (pictured) and MC9LS are optics ready and are available with a factor-installed MeCanik M01 red dot sight.
The Canik Mete MC9L and MC9LS have an MSRP of $499 or $655 for a black finish pistol with a factory-installed MeCanik M01 tactical micro reflex sight. For information, see the company’s website.
