Vortex Optics made headlines in 2022 when it was selected to provide the Next Generation Squad Weapons–Fire Control (NGSW-FC) system for the U.S. Army’s NGSW program. That has led to both securing additional military optics contracts and the resulting advanced technology trickling down to civilian products. Both of those are evident in the release of the company’s AMG 1-10X 24 mm FFP, the world’s shortest and lightest FFP 1-10X low-power variable optic (LPVO), to the civilian market.

Vortex’s AMG 1-10X 24 mm FFP is the world’s shortest and lightest FFP 1-10X low-power variable optic and is designed to be used on short-barreled carbines.
The AMG 1-10X 24 mm riflescope is the result of specifications requested by special operations groups around the world.

The scope is a product of Vortex’s Advanced Manufacturing Group (AMG). The process started in 2018, based on requests from special forces in both the U.S. and the UK, which resulted in the AMG 1-10, which is what Vortex calls “the most advanced optical and mechanical system Vortex has engineered in an LPVO.” The scope is built around Vortex’s HD Optical System, which delivers the highest resolution and the best possible field-of-view (116.0 feet – 12.0 feet @ 100 yards). Lenses are apochromatic to deliver true color images and given the company’s XR Plus anti-reflective coating and Armortek anti-scratch coating. A locking diopter adjusts focus. Parallax is fixed at 250 yards.

The body of each AMG 1-10X 24 mm riflescope is machined from a solid block of aluminum.
The AMG 1-10X 24 mm packs a host of advanced features into a light and compact LPVO.

The lenses are placed within a 34 mm tube that is machined from a solid block of aluminum and given a matte black anodized finish, which is then argon gas-purged and sealed with O-rings to render it waterproof and fogproof. Adjusting through the scope’s 1-10X magnification is accomplished with a low-profile throw lever that has a 120-degree range of movement.

The AMG 1-10X 24 mm uses Vortex’s illuminated EBR-9 MRAD reticle.

The scope uses a glass-etched reticle, which is Vortex’s illuminated EBR-9 MRAD pattern. This reticle is designed for both close-quarters and long-range shooting and its usability for these roles is enhanced by the scope’s first focal plane design. Adjustments are made through toolless turrets that adjust 0.1 MRAD per click and are capped when not in use. The dual zero turrets allow for user to set multiple zeroes for switching between cartridges or between suppressed and unsuppressed fire. The scope’s illumination has nine daylight and two night vision settings, and is powered by a single CR2032 battery and controlled by a locking illumination dial.

The AMG is a first focal plane (FFP) scope, which allows the scope’s reticle to be use effectively at close ranges at the lowest magnification.
At full magnification, the EBR-9 reticle is optimized for long-distance shooting.
The AMG 1-10X 24 mm’s dual zero turrets allows the user to switch quickly between two different zeroes.

At just 8.4 inches in length, the scope leaves space on a firearm’s rail for other accessories. It weighs 18.8 ounces. The Vortex Optics AMG 1-10X 24 mm FFP riflescope has an MSRP of $6,400. Each scope ships with a sunshade and Vortex’s Defender flip caps. For more information, see the company’s website.

According to Vortex, the AMG 1-10X 24 mm is “the most advanced optical and mechanical system Vortex has engineered in an LPVO.”
