Disarmory Ministries, a new non-profit organization dedicated to firearm safety, officially launches in Oakland County, hosting regular gun buyback events every Friday and Saturday. Founded by local gun owners and community advocates, the initiative aims to provide a safe and accessible way to dispose of unwanted firearms, with participants receiving gift cards as incentives for turning in their weapons.

The ministry’s efforts seek to address rising concerns over gun safety, particularly in light of tragic incidents affecting families in the community. Co-founder Rev. Chris Yaw highlights research showing that many American firearms are inherited and unused, suggesting that easier disposal methods could prevent accidents and reduce anxiety surrounding unsecured firearms in households. Disarmory has already facilitated the disposal of over 650 guns since its inception in 2022.
