A convenience store clerk in New Iberia shot a suspected armed robber during an attempted theft at the Pop-N-Fuel location on Center Street. The incident occurred Thursday night around 10:30 PM when the store clerk encountered a suspect armed with a cutting instrument, leading to a physical struggle in which the clerk fired a shot.

The suspect suffered a gunshot wound and was initially taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to Lafayette, where they remain in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing, and local authorities have yet to release the names of those involved as detectives work to gather more details surrounding the robbery attempt.
