Among the incidents, the shooting of 31-year-old Gawon Benson was notably classified as a “suicide by cop scenario,” raising complex discussions around mental health and police encounters. With a total of seven police-action deaths recorded in the county last year, the findings prompt renewed attention on law enforcement protocols in critical situations, as well as calls from families for transparency and public release of body camera footage in these cases.
