The Promise Center, a nonprofit in Homewood, claims it was unfairly excluded from this year’s Pittsburgh Stop The Violence grants due to political affiliations. Executive Director Nate Goodson believes his support for a rival mayoral candidate influenced the decision, despite having received a grant of $15,000 the previous year to aid local youth services.

City officials assert that the selection process was merit-based, yet concerns have been raised about the scoring system used to evaluate applicants. Councilman Bobby Wilson notes that critical tax dollars are being rushed through the system, leaving some high-scoring organizations behind. As Goodson continues to advocate for his community, he vows to reapply for funding next year, demonstrating resilience amid disappointment.
