Ohio Police Cleared in Fatal Shooting at GOP Convention

A Milwaukee prosecutor has cleared police officers from Ohio of any criminal wrongdoing in a fatal shooting that occurred last July during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The incident involved a group of Columbus officers who perceived an imminent threat when 43-year-old Samuel Sharpe approached another man while wielding knives.

Following an investigation, Milwaukee County District Attorney Kent Lovern stated that the officers acted within the law, which allows for the use of deadly force to prevent serious harm. The shooting, although not directly connected to the convention, raised concerns among local residents about the involvement of out-of-state law enforcement. Lovern noted that body camera footage confirmed that Sharpe ignored multiple warnings to drop his weapons before the officers fired.
