More than 200 unwanted firearms are now off the streets following a community gun safety event in Encinitas, California. Organized by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement, the event resulted in the collection of 226 firearms, including handguns, rifles, and assault weapons, with participants receiving up to $200 in gift cards for their contributions.

This initiative aims to reduce gun violence and promote public safety throughout the region. Notably, all collected firearms will be processed to determine if they are stolen or linked to criminal activity, with any remaining weapons set for safe destruction. The event highlights ongoing efforts within the community to safely handle unwanted firearms, and residents are encouraged to turn in weapons at any sheriff’s station at their convenience.
