(Continued from Part 2. This conclude4s teh article.) STAGE 2: SURVIVAL MODE The survival phase is the intermediate period between the very short-term emergency phase and the time when things finally settle down to the New Normal phase. Magazines are the bane of any semiauto pistol, and even the best will eventually wear out. Due to the huge number of makers, it can be surprisingly hard to find good 1911 mags, especially in calibers that aren’t .45 ACP. Enter Ed Brown’s updated fixed-base magazine. Made from stainless steel, they come in 9mm, .38 Super, 10mm or .45 ACP and are drilled and tapped for slam pads. Helpfully, they also come with two pads in various sizes so you can choose a flat mag base or whatever size you need to clear your magwell without the expense of buying…
Much of the Wyoming rangeland could soon be inhospitable to deer, according to new research from ecologists at the University of Wyoming. The culprit: an invasive Eurasian prairie grass species called cheatgrass. The fast-growing, ever-thirsty species poses multiple problems for deer. Not only does it provide extremely low nutritional value, but it also siphons water away from native rangeland grasses, changing the composition of the prairies and pushing deer off their preferred habitat. The study, published in the Rangeland Ecology & Management journal, found that mule deer increasingly avoid rangelands as the density of cheatgrass increases above 10 to 14%. Once…

For more than 60 years, Charter Arms has produced a lineup of innovative, simple, durable and affordable revolvers in New England’s historic “Gun Valley.” One of the company’s most successful models is its Pathfinder series of rimfire “kit guns” that is nearly as old as the company itself. New for 2025, the company is updating the model with the Pathfinder II. Like all Charter Arms revolvers, the Pathfinder II is a double-action/single-action handgun with a swing-out cylinder that uses a one-piece frame. In the Pathfinder II’s case, the frame is made of 7075 aluminum and given an anodized finish. The…
00:00:05 Speaker 1: The story of Ishi, the last Yahee Indians showing up in Oraville, California, nineteen eleven has got to be one of America’s most fascinating stories. This episode is more redemptive in some ways than the first, but ultimately the scales tip toward it being even more tragic. These events took place between September fourth, nineteen eleven and March twenty fifth, nineteen sixteen, when Hi died, but it wouldn’t be into the nineteen nineties, when Ishi’s remains were put back into the dirt of his homeland that this story really ends. But if you’re a bowhunter, the ripples…
