Pardoned participants of the January 6 Capitol riot, including former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, are exploring candidacies for public office as their narratives gain traction within certain Republican circles. Ryan Kelley, who previously ran for Michigan governor, believes that his past involvement in the riot no longer hampers his political aspirations but instead serves as a potential asset for gaining support among pro-Trump voters.

With Donald Trump advocating for the pardoned rioters, branding them as “political prisoners,” these individuals are receiving newfound attention and opportunities to campaign on their experiences. Jake Lang, one of the pardoned rioters, has even announced his intention to run for a vacant U.S. Senate seat in Florida, illustrating a shift in how some factions within the GOP view political violence and its implications for future elections.
