Nashville police officers fatally shot 29-year-old Tadarius Milan Hunt after he opened fire at them during a confrontation on May 12. Hunt was suspected of shooting security guard Cedric Wilson at the Nashville Rescue Mission just a day earlier, which left Wilson critically injured. Witnesses reported that Hunt fired first, grazing one officer in the leg before police returned fire, striking him critically. He later died in the hospital, while Officer Clayton Lewis was treated for his injuries and released.

The police released a three-minute video clip from body and dash cameras detailing the incident, which started when officers cornered Hunt near a liquor store. This dramatic sequence of events unfolded after an extensive manhunt initiated by the Metro Nashville Police Department. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now looking into the shooting, as the community grapples with the impact of violence at the shelter that has served those in need since 1954.
