This is also the birthday of Pat Frank (1908-1964). This was the pen name of newspaper journalist Harry Hart Frank. His 1959 novel Alas, Babylon is a survivalist classic. His personal life was marred by alcoholism, but his writing is admired and still surprisingly popular. (Alas, Babylon is still in print, after 67 years!) As an homage to Pat Frank, one of the settings in my novel Expatriates is Mt. Dora, Florida, which was fictionalized by Pat Frank as Fort Repose in Alas, Babylon.

Today is the birthday of Michael Bane. He is a television host, author, firearms trainer, off-grid prepper, and host of the longest-running firearms podcast—MB.TV – On the Radio. His recent podcast episode—“The Monsters Rise” —deals with the assassination attempt against President Trump and how the Left turns conservatives into targets by what Bane has dubbed: “chumming for monsters.” All of Bane’s content can be found at michaelbane.tv.

I just noticed that we’re about to surpass the milestone of 42,000 archived SurvivalBlog articles, columns, and quotes. Please spread the word about SurvivalBlog with your friends and co-workers, and mention that the archives are free and fully searchable. (Even though we’ve been posting daily since 2005, there are still a lot of folks who haven’t yet heard of or seen SurvivalBlog.) Also, please mention SurvivalBlog to any businesses that deal in preparedness-related merchandise or services. We need a few more advertisers and writing contest prize sponsors. Thanks! – JWR
