In 2025, Ruger teamed up with Magpul to create the RXM pistol, a design that uses a chassis-style receiver anchored inside of a polymer grip frame. “With the RXM, Ruger essentially developed the chassis, which is inside the frame, and the mechanics of the gun, and Magpul contributed the polymer grip frame itself, so RXM, meaning Ruger and Magpul, getting together and developing this collaborative effort,” American Rifleman’s Brian Sheetz said.
On the slide, the Ruger RXM is cut for optics and uses a pin-style mounting interface that accommodates most of today’s popular red-dot sights. A pair of Glock-pattern sights are included and sit at a height that allows most optics to co-witness with a mounted red-dot.
”So back to the enhanced handgun grip, Magpul has done several things here,” Sheetz said. “Now you’ll notice there is a window and that allows you to see the serial number that’s on the chassis that’s held within the grip frame. Again, this is a chassis based gun. It’s not a Glock. So this grip frame is not a serialized component.”
In keeping with the Glock-style system, two takedown tabs are located on either side of the polymer frame, just above the trigger. Additional frame designs are available from Magpul, featuring different colors and frame sizes, and the frames are compatible with all Glock-pattern magazines on the market, including Magpul’s polymer magazine offerings.
“With the RXM, I think Ruger has created not just a new model, but a new concept, going forward, with how to integrate a vast marketplace of aftermarket componentry for Glock handguns into what is already quite a nice gun with excellent features as it comes right out of the box,” Sheetz said.
