Watervliet police are confronting a disturbing trend of rising gun crimes involving teenagers, urging parents to recognize their potential legal responsibility. Surveillance footage recently revealed a 15-year-old firing shots at a moving vehicle, highlighting the urgency as police report that five out of six firearms-related incidents this year involve juveniles under the age of 16.

As police explore the root causes of this alarming increase, they are focusing on parental oversight, suggesting that some parents may be neglecting their responsibilities by allowing their underage children access to firearms. Police intend to work closely with prosecutors to possibly charge parents whose children engage in gun-related criminal acts, noting that accountability starts at home.
