Charles Jackson, a 26-year-old from Rockford, is sentenced to eight years in prison for unlawfully possessing a firearm due to his prior felony convictions. His illegal possession came to light during an escape attempt from the Rockford Police Department in May 2022, where he was found with a modified handgun loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition.

This case highlights the ongoing federal initiative targeting gun-related offenses as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods. U.S. District Judge Iain D. Johnston presided over the case, emphasizing the law’s role in addressing gun violence in the Northern District of Illinois. The federal prosecution aims to hold individuals like Jackson accountable, underscoring a concentrated effort to curb illegal gun possession in the region.
