A Rogersville, Missouri man, Lloyd Eugene Mathis, is sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm. U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool issued the ruling following Mathis’s guilty plea to being a felon in possession of a firearm, which is prohibited under federal law due to his extensive criminal history, including multiple felony convictions for serious offenses.

The incident unfolded when U.S. Marshals, seeking Mathis for outstanding warrants, found him in a Springfield strip mall parking lot. As they approached, Mathis fled, but deputies quickly subdued him, discovering a loaded SCCY 9mm pistol in his waistband during a physical struggle. This case highlights the ongoing challenges with firearm regulations and criminal recidivism in the region.
