During Operation Sarasota S.U.R.G.E. III, law enforcement officials make nearly 40 arrests and seize 43 firearms, including 15 that were reported stolen. The operation, which partners the Sarasota Police Department with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), aims to combat violent crime and reduce the distribution of illegal drugs in the area.
Among those arrested, Clyde Lee, with a criminal history of 14 felonies, was apprehended for selling cocaine to an undercover officer. Authorities also recovered significant quantities of illegal substances, with 44 pounds of marijuana and 1.72 pounds of cocaine being part of the haul, highlighting the interconnected issues of drug trafficking and gun violence in the community. Chief Rex Troche emphasizes the importance of these operations for public safety, warning that illegal firearms will not be tolerated in Sarasota.
