In a recent press conference, Savannah Mayor Van Johnson denounces the rising gun violence in the city, highlighting three separate shootings over the weekend that left one person dead and three others injured. Johnson emphasizes the swift response of the Savannah Police Department, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects, ages 23 and 24, shortly after they fired gunshots near downtown Savannah.

The mayor’s remarks come amid growing concern about public safety, as he points out the challenges of controlling illegal firearms proliferation. “We have a situation in which we allow guns to be everywhere,” he states, questioning the community’s expectations when violence erupts.
