The U.S. Supreme Court’s latest ruling has left the scope of gunmaker liability ambiguity, specifically regarding cases tied to Chicago gun violence and the deadly Highland Park parade shooting. While the unanimous decision barred Mexico from suing American gunmakers over cartel-related violence, it did not clarify key legal questions about whether gun manufacturers can be deemed the “proximate cause” of harm committed by third parties, thus leaving future litigations precarious for both victims and manufacturers.
