A shooting outside an Amazon facility in Hampton has intensified the focus on escalating gun violence in the city, marking the latest incident in a troubling trend. Since July 20, Hampton police have responded to five shooting incidents, indicating a significant increase in violent crime, with 10 more shootings reported in 2025 compared to the same time last year.

According to Hampton Police Assistant Chief Brian Coleman, the crime wave is not random but involves specific individuals engaged in targeted activities. As the department works to apprehend suspects in these recent incidents, which include a total of eight shootings this month, they seek community assistance in reporting suspicious behavior. Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report any concerns to aid in addressing the rise in violence.
