The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear a case challenging the constitutionality of a federal law that prohibits individuals subject to domestic violence court orders from possessing firearms. This landmark case, originating from the actions of Zackey Rahimi who violated such an order multiple times, could invalidate similar laws across most states, raising questions about gun rights and public safety.

Legal experts argue that if the court strikes down this law, it may undermine a significant part of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, which relies on these protective orders to prevent dangerous individuals from obtaining firearms. Statistics indicate that nearly 13,000 gun sales are blocked each year due to domestic violence histories, emphasizing the potential impact of the court’s ruling on both gun regulation and domestic violence prevention efforts.
