Armed Citizen® Today

The son of an Evansville, Ind., homeowner was forced to defend himself and his family from a violent home invasion from three suspects on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 13, according to local police reports.

Just after 1:45 p.m., the residents told officers they heard a loud noise, and when they investigated the source of the noise, they found three armed suspects forcing their way into the house. All were described as “black males, wearing all-black face masks and gloves.” The homeowner’s son was armed and fired toward the three men, striking at least one of them and causing the other two suspects to flee the scene.

The homeowner called police just after the shooting and told dispatchers that they did not believe the person who had been shot was alive. Officers arrived on scene and pronounced the 22-year-old suspect dead. Police are still searching for the other two suspects. (Courier & Press; Evansville, Ind.; 5/14/25)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives – April 1977

When a pair of young thugs invaded Jerome Gaines’ West Baltimore, Md., pharmacy, they weren’t prepared for the spunky resistance of Gaines and his wife, Leatrice. One of them pointed a snubnose revolver at Mrs. Gaines and demanded cash, but she screamed at him instead.

When the startled robber stepped back, Gaines hit an alarm button, grabbed his own .38-cal. revolver and opened fire, wounding one of the pair. Police apprehended him later. (The Sun; Baltimore, Md.)
