An armed father in Grand Rapids, Mich., held his daughter’s attacker at gunpoint until police arrived early in the morning of June 15.
According to surveillance video on the scene, the 24-year-old suspect entered the family’s residence around 3 a.m. He then stripped down to his T-shirt and underwear, grabbed a kitchen knife from a drawer, then walked upstairs. He first opened the door of the master bedroom, finding the homeowner and his wife asleep in bed. The police affidavit states he shut the door to “look for an easier target.”
In another room, the suspect found the couple’s 11-year-old daughter asleep with her friend. The suspect removed his underwear, climbed on top of the girl and began stabbing her. The girl’s screams awoke the homeowner, who called 911, grabbed his gun and held the suspect at gunpoint while police were en route.
Police say the suspect told them he was planning to kill the girl and have sex with her body, then went on to tell deputies at the scene that his intention was to kill the entire family. The suspect was taken into custody and faces four felony charges, including attempted murder and first-degree home invasion. The 11-year-old victim underwent surgery for stab wounds in her arm and shoulder. (MLive; Grand Rapids, Mich.; 6/17/24)

Earl Presswood, manager of a diner in Shreveport, La., pulled a .380-cal. pistol when a man armed with a .22-cal. handgun entered his diner one day and attempted to rob him. The man fled but was later captured by police. (The Shreveport Journal, Shreveport, La.)
