An argument that began outside a Birmingham, Ala., church ended in a defensive shooting nearby, as the argument escalated into a fight under a nearby highway overpass, according to the findings of an investigation by the Jefferson County, Ala. district attorney.
Authorities say a 38-year-old man got into an argument with another person outside the Church of Reconciler. The argument continued until they reached a nearby overpass, at which point, the 38-year-old suspect was shot and killed by the other person in a shooting that the county district attorney ruled a justifiable homicide.
Since the shooting occurred underneath an interstate bypass, considered state property, a further investigation is ongoing by the state. (WBRC News; Birmingham, Ala., 6/9/25)

Awakened by pounding at the front door of his Dade County, Fla., home, George Daubert peered through a peep hole, saw two men trying to break in, and found his revolver. When the intruders forced their way inside and were standing in the foyer, Daubert ordered them to freeze.
As one man lunged at him, Daubert fired at and wounded him. Both intruders fled, but the wounded man collapsed at a nearby corner and died soon after at the hospital. (The Herald, Miami, Fla.)
