Police in Alabaster, Ala., noted that that an early morning shooting at a local gas station was an “act of self-defense,” after reviewing the available evidence.
The incident occurred early on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, and officers responded to a call of shots fired. When they arrived at the scene, they found a 45-year-old man and another person at the scene. The man was suffering from gunshot wounds, and despite life-saving treatment being provided at the scene, the 45-year-old succumbed to his wounds.
Police initially detained the other individual, but available physical evidence, witness statements and video evidence led officers to believe that the person fired in self-defense. (WBRC News; Alabaster, Ala.; 11/6/24)

After asking to see a rifle on display in Harold Von Wahlde’s Anderson, Ind., gun store, a man pulled a revolver and demanded money. Van Wahlde, 71, attempted to grab the gun, and a struggle ensued. When the robber’s gun misfired, Von Wahlde grabbed a .38-cal. handgun from a shelf behind him and fired one shot that mortally wounded the thug. (The Anderson Daily Bulletin; Anderson, Ind.)
